Spiced Black Tea

Prep: 10 minutes Stand: 10 minutes

Spiced Black Tea

Ingredients

  • 7  cups  water
  • 1  cup  sugar
  • 1  1-inch piece  peeled fresh ginger
  • 3    whole cloves
  • 1  3-inch  stick cinnamon
  • 1    star anise (optional)
  • 4    black tea bags
  • 1  cup  pomegranate juice
  • 1/4  cup  lemon juice
  •     Lemon slices (optional)
  •     Cinnamon sticks (optional)

Directions

1. In large saucepan combine water, sugar, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and star anise. Bring to boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and strain. Return mixture to saucepan.
2. Add tea bags. Steep 10 minutes. Remove tea bags. Stir in pomegranate juice and lemon juice. Return to heat; heat through. Serve with lemon slices and cinnamon sticks. Makes 8 (1-cup) servings.

Note from Lena-- My grocery store has ginger in tubes in the produce section. I buy it this way and don't have to waste most of a ginger root. Darn things go bad pretty quickly. The tube keeps a very long time in the refrigerator, ready for an easily-measured squirt.
