Spiced Black Tea

Ingredients
- 7 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1-inch piece peeled fresh ginger
- 3 whole cloves
- 1 3-inch stick cinnamon
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 4 black tea bags
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- Lemon slices (optional)
- Cinnamon sticks (optional)
Directions
1. In large saucepan combine water, sugar, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and star anise. Bring to boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and strain. Return mixture to saucepan.2. Add tea bags. Steep 10 minutes. Remove tea bags. Stir in pomegranate juice and lemon juice. Return to heat; heat through. Serve with lemon slices and cinnamon sticks. Makes 8 (1-cup) servings.
Note from Lena-- My grocery store has ginger in tubes in the produce section. I buy it this way and don't have to waste most of a ginger root. Darn things go bad pretty quickly. The tube keeps a very long time in the refrigerator, ready for an easily-measured squirt.
