What an A**hole! If you can afford an island...

Now, I understand that I don't know ALL the story, but it just seems to me that If you can buy a PRIVATE ISLAND...you can pay child support.....

He helped make them, so he can help support them until they reach adulthood. That's my thought. I don't care who or what you are or what you think you are, responsibility for your actions must come first. You play, you pay.

Oh I'm with you - even if we don't have the whole story, he was ordered to pay the support. He now deserves whatever he gets - and I hope it is a long jail term!

Lena,
A parent is reponsible for his/her children. Period. Full stop. End of story. You bring em into this world, you have a responsibility to help them make their way. Especially if you are a football player who can afford to buy an island. Sheesh.

Says a lot about the quality of his new wife if she didn't encourage him to own up to his responsibilities and pay up.

This is horrible. What is it with men that don't pay their child support??

Honestly, this bothers me. Especially since I PAY child support. I don't absolve myself of paying money to support my boys. That said, I can see how the paying parent can be unfairly slammed to pay too much. (Trust me, I pay 1/3 of my paychecks each month and my ex makes more than 2x what I make.)

But that said- it's basic responsibility 101. The question then is- why didn't his folks teach him about being a responsible person in all things? *shrugs*

Agreed. I loathe who don't take their responsibilities seriously.

I don't know what it is in the states but in the UK the law stands that child support is 20% of your earnings and that seems a small price to pay for your children, although I admit I feel that individual cases and circumstances deserve individual treatment but it's not like this guy couldn't afford to pay. And okay, in the case of casual relationships then the woman needs to take just as much responsibility if she didn't take precautions but SO DO THE MEN! Leaving contraption to the woman is a cop-out. Whether the relationship was serious or not, whether the children were planned or not, why wouldn't you want to pay? If the relationship breaks down that doesn't give you the right to walk from the obligation you have to your children, no matter what sex you are. It drives me crazy when people have kids with no consideration as to what that actually means and anyone who can care so little for their own offspring deserve no consideration. On a good note, there are men out there doing the right thing and even paying more than the courts dictate. There are guys who live in misery to take care of their kids. We just don't get to sing about these unseen heroes.
